A group of scientists from the University of Alberta have created a process that makes graphene-like nanomaterials out of hemp waste, suitable for use in supercapacitors.
While graphene is already known to be a good energy store, it's also expensive, so commercial supercapacitors use activated carbon electrodes.
According to a paper published by the American Chemical Society, the material created by the University of Alberta group has a power density of up to 49 kWatt-hours per kilo (depending on temperature), capacitance up to 142 Farads per gram, and able to support current density of 100 amps per gram...
A farmer in southeastern Colorado has planted a crop that hasn’t been legally grown in the United States for 60 years — industrial hemp.
Hemp is the much-maligned cousin of marijuana, a harmless plant that contains a negligible amount of the psychoactive THC that has made marijuana so controversial.
Under federal law, however, hemp is just as illegal as pot...
Its cooler cannabis cousin, marijuana, gets all the buzz—generational bards from Bob Dylan to Snoop Dogg sing Mary Jane’s praise; cancer and AIDS patients declare her glory.
And even though smoking hemp won’t make you feel high—just really stupid for trying (as well as a sharp burning sensation in the lungs)—the feds still crack down on it because they think it kinda sorta looks like the wacky weed that threatens to send our nation back into reefer madness. Just another innocent casualty in the war on drugs...
A bill to register hemp farmers with the state has been approved by lawmakers. Now all it needs is the governor's signature before a nine-member committee can begin assisting the Department of Agriculture in developing a process that will allow the good people of Colorado to engage in widespread planting...
Kentucky Agricultural Commissioner James Comer met with some powerful people in D.C. yesterday: a White House staffer, members of the Department of Agriculture and the EPA, and House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio). The reason for his visit is the hemp commission his state created earlier this year. To get it off the ground, Kentucky will need a federal waiver exempting it from the Controlled Substances Act's prohibition of domestic hemp farming...
The push to grow hemp in Kentucky is headed to Washington, DC. starting tomorrow. Hemp supporters will try to convince the feds to allow a new cash crop in Kentucky.
The bill to regulate hemp production in Kentucky passed after a huge fight here at the State Capitol. Now the focus shifts to the Nation's Capitol.
Paul Hornback is a lifelong farmer and a state senator who is pushing for the legalization of industrial hemp...
